Wash Ajrakh prints separately to prevent bleeding.

Cold Water:
Use cold water for washing to minimize the risk of color fading and bleeding.

Gentle Washing:
Be gentle while washing to avoid stressing the fabric and intricate block prints.

Avoid Soaking:
Minimize soaking time to prevent the dyes from bleeding into each other.

Turn Inside Out:
Turn Ajrakh-printed garments inside out before washing to protect the outer surface.

Air Dry:
Air dry the fabric by laying it flat on a clean surface. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent color fading.

Avoid Wringing:
Avoid wringing the fabric, as it can distort the shape of the garment and affect the block prints.

Iron on Reverse:
If ironing is necessary, iron the fabric on the reverse side or use a cloth as a protective barrier to prevent direct contact between the iron and the print.

Store Ajrakh-printed garments in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, as prolonged sun exposure can fade the colors over time.

Ajrakh Block Print

Ajrakh is a traditional vegetable dyeing and resist block-printing technique on cloth. It is estimated to be around 4,500 years old. The Ajrakh artisans in India are originally from Sindh and they migrated to Kutch in Gujarat and Barmer in Rajasthan. Ajrakh is the traditional attire of the Maldhari pastoral community of Bhuj. The process of ‘Ajrakh’ is a long drawn process with many stages and each layer of colour is printed after a gap of time so the cloth has to stay for the day.

Ajrak is a block-printed textile that is resist-dyed using natural dyes. including indigo and madder. It is made in Kutch, Gujarat and is distinguished by its color- blue with red – and its complex geometric & floral patterns. It’s name is derived from ‘azarak’, ‘blue’ in Arabic & Persian.

The popular story among local practitioners is that Ajrakh means “keep it today.” The cloth is made in a sixteen step process of washing, dyeing, printing, and drying, with one step being performed in one day and the fabric being put to rest for the day.

Hand Crafted

The art and craft of India is the biggest inspiration for our collections and the we believe in the artisans hard work by showcasing the authentic handicraft products.

Benefits of Ajrakh Print

The natural dyes used in Ajrakh printing lends a unique characteristic to the fabric. During summers, it expands the pores of the fabric, making it easy for air to pass through. During winters, the pores of the fabric close, providing warmth. No wonder, they say that Ajrakh is suitable to wear around the year.
